Artists' Visions
Tom Friedman, Sculptor
Robert Storr, Senior Curator in the Department of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art, speaks with contemporary sculptor, Tom Friedman. This lecture is part of the 2002 Artists’ Visions series, underwritten by Gilda and Henry Block. Friedman shares slides of his work and explains how he started making sculptures as a graduate student. He explains that, after studying the materiality of ordinary objects, he began to explore ways of changing and distorting the meanings of those objects. Friedman walks through the development of specific sculptures and describes his process of looking at and interpreting “materials and the physicality of materials.” The discussion is followed with questions from the audience.
