Curator Patterson Sims moderates a discussion with abstract expressionist painter Helen Frankenthaler. Frankenthaler, whose art has been described as a “a world made harmoniously in its freedom from utility,” discusses and shares examples of her work, including pieces such as Open Wall (1953), Eden (1953), Mother Goose Melody (1959), and Sesame (1970). She talks about how the cubism art movement has influenced how she uses lines, colors, textures, and plays with space in her own artwork. Following her lecture, Frankenthaler speaks with Sims and answers questions from the audience.
