The Zionist Dream
Ben Halpern, a sociologist and author of The American Jew: A Zionist Analysis (1956) and Clash of Heroes: Brandeis, Weizmann, and American Zionism (1987), discusses the writings and Zionist views of Theodor Herzl in relation to a utopian Jewish state. He examines Herzl’s 1896 book, The Jewish State (Der Judenstaat), categorizing his writings into two parts: rational analysis and propaganda. Halpern discusses how the history of Zionist ideology led to the creation of the Jewish State. The lecture concludes with audience questions.
