For the Culture: Phenomenal Black Women and Femmes in Food

Klancy Miller in Conversation with Alison Roman

Sep 21, 2023

Chef, writer, and founder of For the Culture – the groundbreaking magazine that celebrates Black women and femmes in food and wine – Klancy Miller joins us with culinary star Alison Roman to talk about her new book, For the Culture: Phenomenal Black Women and Femmes in Food. Forging her path in a staunchly traditional professional food world that included training and a position at Le Cordon Bleu Paris, Miller wondered, “what would it look like if we looked at food through the gaze of Black women?” Hear her talk about it all with Roman – from recognizing the absence of women like herself in mainstream food media to what went into creating a publication that would celebrate them. And hear her share stories and wisdom from the culinary innovators whose interviews and recipes fill her book – icons like Edna Lewis, B. Smith, Leah Chase, and more. “Black women are the architects of cuisine in this country and throughout the world. And our stories really don’t get as much attention,” said Miller in an interview with The Cut. Join her and hear her talk about her passionate mission to change that.
