Artists' Visions

Jorg Immendorff

Jan 25, 2001

Robert Storr, Senior Curator in the Department of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art, speaks with German artist Jörg Immendorff. This is the first part of the 2001 Artists Visions’ lecture series. Immendorff shares slides of his work and reflects on how his art and artistic practice has changed over the years. He speaks about his time at the Academy of Art in Düsseldorf, his personal influences and collaborations, the politics of his work (especially in the 1960s and 1970s), his experience working on costumes and set design for theatrical performances, and his experience as a teacher. He argues that, after a century of turmoil in Germany, he hopes that contemporary artists have the opportunity to “create and work on the future.” The discussion is followed by questions from the audience.
