Furniture Design

Dec 11, 2001

Brooke Stoddard, style editor for House & Garden magazine, speaks with Vladimir Kagan and Chris Lehrecke about their careers in furniture design. Kagan and Lehrecke each present slideshows of their designs, and discuss their accomplishments, creative processes, and how their styles have changed throughout their careers. Kagan’s early furniture design career was marked by a passion for painting and sculpture, and included commissions for the United Nations, General Electric, and Disney, among others. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Furniture Designers in 2000. Lehrecke opened his own workshop and design studio in Brooklyn, New York in 1987, creating his own line of limited edition and made-to-order furniture. He received the Brooklyn Museum of Art Modernism Young Designer Award in 1997. The discussion is followed with questions from the audience.
