East West Street: A Song of Good and Evil

Oct 14, 2018

This remarkable work based on the award-winning book by human rights lawyer Philippe Sands blends the artistry of Metropolitan Opera star Laurent Naouri and master pianist Emanuel Ax with narration by Sands and luminous German actress Katja Riemann.

Reflecting on the theme of global justice, East West Street explores issues of morality, art, and humanity against the backdrop of three men whose lives intertwined during the Nuremberg trials. How do two people at the extremes of good and evil find solace in the same aria? Through the power of words and the beauty of music by Bach, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, and others, East West Street delivers a provocative exploration of heartache and hope.

Laurent Naouri, bass-baritone Emanuel Ax, piano Guillaume de Chassy, piano Katja Riemann, narrator Philippe Sands, narrator Nina Brazier, director

The Inflection series is made possible by a generous gift from Eva Colin Usdan and John Usdan to the Inventions and Variations Fund for the Arts.
