Founded in 1983 by NEA National Heritage Fellow Juan Gutiérrez-Rodriguez, GRAMMY award-nominated Los Pleneros de la 21 is an East Harlem-based performing arts ensemble and nonprofit organization created to foster appreciation of Puerto Rico’s extraordinary cultural expressions.
Known for complex, multi-part vocal harmonies set against bomba and plena rhythms, the group has been praised for "perfectly arranged" tunes producing "exhilaratingly deep Latino explorations of Afro-Caribbean grooves" (The New York Times).
