Deborah Jowitt, dance critic for The Village Voice, moderates a screening of the 1998 documentary, Dancemaker, which follows the Paul Taylor Dance Company during the development and debut of a new dance, "Piazzolla Caldera.” It was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 71st Academy Awards in 1999. Following the screening, Jowitt speaks with the documentary’s director, Matthew Diamond, and choreographer Paul Taylor. Diamond discusses how the film was made, the process of storytelling with documentary footage, and working with cinematographer Tom Hurwitz. Taylor also comments on his experience working and dancing in front of a documentary crew. The discussion is followed with questions from the audience.
