Twyla Tharp on Creativity
Choreographer Twyla Tharp speaks about her new book, The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It for Life (2003). Tharp argues that “everyone is creative but often has something holding them back.” She explains that an important step in exercising creativity is overcoming fear. Tharp invites audience members on stage to demonstrate different ways of counteracting fear and insecurity, such as practicing rituals and exploring memories. Tharp also discusses different factors that contribute to creativity, including particular talents and points of view. The lecture is followed with questions from the audience.
