Coretta Scott King, the widow of Martin Luther King, Jr. delivers the first annual lecture on tolerance, intended to support diversity and enhance racial harmony and understanding. One thoughtful excerpt among many:

We have learned some important lessons along the way. We've learned that racism, prejudice, and anti-Semitism flourish where there is ignorance. We've also learned that there are educated people who embrace these same values. We've learned that the pursuit of tolerance requires educating the hearts of people as well as their minds. When tolerance in the broader sense of the term is finally achieved throughout the nation, then the America of our noblest ideals will become a reality.
