Conrad Tao and Stefan Jackiw concluded their 92Y Soundspace recital with “All I Had Forgotten Or Tried To,” an encore written by Tao in 2017. The composer-pianist described the piece as follows:

Two summers ago I was asked if I would play a piece of mine for an encore. I didn’t have any three-minute pieces lying around, so I wrote one. The piece takes its title from a passage of “Impossible Princess,” a book by the California-based writer Kevin Killian. “Impossible Princess” is a collection of short stories, poetry, and experimental erotica, and it itself takes its title from the Kylie Minogue album of the same name.
