An Autobiography of Yiddish Culture: I.B. Singer
In this engaging stage reading hosted at 92NY, novelist and translator Isaac Bashevis Singer reads his most-loved short stories and sample chapters from his books, namely “The Day I Got Lost” and “The Missing Line.” The reading ends with questions from the audience, where they ask him about subjects such as why he began to write in English, whether he feels like important nuances get lost in translation between Yiddish and English, and how he develops his stories and what sources they come from.
