In this intermediate/advanced class, students will work on class prompts, individual assignments, and independent projects to challenge their technical and conceptual skills. Classes focus on advanced level representational topics, abstract ideas, and technical application skills to create form, surface, and space.

Chris Wright received his BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art and his MFA from Pratt Institute. He has taught painting at Pratt Institute since 1999. Wright has taught with the Pratt in Venice Summer Program, Montserrat College of Art, the New York Academy of Art and the 92nd Street Y among others. He has been awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, a MacDowell Fellowship and a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in painting. James Sheehan studied art history and fine arts at U.C. Berkeley and pursued graduate work at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, and in Rome, Italy. He moved to New York City in 1994. Recently, he has shown in various group exhibitions at the Haus der Kunst in Munich, Germany, The Contemporary Art Factory in Tokyo, Japan, and the Brooklyn Museum, Rotunda Gallery and Ronald Feldman Gallery in New York. His solo exhibitions include the M du B, F, H & G Gallery in Montreal, Québec and the Galerie Schedler in Zurich, Switzerland. In 2001, he spoke about his work with Mouhktar Kocache at the Whitney Museum of Art as part of a program entitled "I.P.O. New Artists, New Curators." His awards include the ARCUS residency in Japan, LMCC 'World Views' residency in 2000, The Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation and the Pollock-Krasner grant. His website is www.jamessheehanwork.com.

Shima is a fine artist, architect, and a creative designer based in New York City. She earned her Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to that, she earned a Bachelor degree in Architecture. Since 2011, she has been practicing as a designer in New York City, San Francisco, and Boston. Parallel to teaching at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, she has participated in a number of workshops and exhibitions and has published a book titled Design Visualization. The book has been featured in the Landscape Architecture Magazine in 2020. Her interest is engaging the form as a fundamental element in her creative process and making a conclusive discussion through it, that is functional, inspiring and necessary in both design and art studios.
