Fantastic Gymnastics Camp FAQs

Can I register for one week of camp (3 weeks, 5 weeks, etc)?

Yes! We highly recommend registering for a full session as this enhances the camp experience as the children work on a dance over the 2 week camp session that they show off at our end of camp session exhibition; however we fully understand that summer scheduling can be difficult and we invite your child to attend camp for whatever dates work! There is a 10% up-charge for 1 week sessions purchased.

Can I tack on camp sessions once camp has started?

Yes! No problem (pending availability). Please just e-mail the camps team. Please note that camp does fill up so the sooner you can register, the better! Being signed up for one session does not guarantee space for an add-on week so please sign up for all dates that you know your child will be available to attend.

What gymnastics experience does my child need to be to participate in camp?

No experience required! Children of ALL different skill levels attend our camp! We train beginner gymnasts that have never tried the sport, all the way up to competitive team gymnasts.

Can I do extended care as needed?

Extended care drop-off in the morning is 8:15 am and pick-up is 5:45 pm.

If you need to use extended care every once in a while, you can have your child dropped off early or picked up late but we ask that you give us 24 hour notice at: email, so that your child can be added to our extended care roster for the day.

Extended care is $30 per day if you did not originally check off this service on your registration form and can be paid with the credit card on file at 92NY. If you would like to add extended care for an entire session please email the camps team.

What should my child wear to camp?

  • Please bring a labeled water bottle as water fountain spouts are closed but water bottle filling stations are available.
  • For gymnastics all campers should have a leotard with or without spandex bike shorts. Boys can wear a male leotard with shorts or non-baggy shorts/fitted t-shirt. Baggy clothing is not allowed as it can get caught in equipment, etc. All hair should be tied back away from eyes. No jewelry (other than stud earrings) allowed. No zipper pants for gymnastics.
  • For swimming children should wear a bathing suit. Goggles if needed. Swimming caps provided.
  • For swimming children should wear a bathing suit. Goggles if needed and flip-flops for the pool deck (optional). Swimming caps provided. Please pack a towel for your child as 92Y is not currently doing towel service. We also recommend bringing a plastic bag or another form of bag for wet clothing.
  • For sports/art/dance activities your child should wear athletic shorts and a t-shirt/tank top with socks and sneakers. No flip flops. Many gymnasts opt to leave their leotard on underneath shorts/t-shirt as dance is sometimes more comfortable in a leotard – this is fine and up to the individual.
  • For field trips, children should wear athletic shorts, socks, sneakers, and their Fantastic Gymnastics Camp t-shirt and FG drawstring bag provided by staff before the 1st field trip.

What should my child bring to camp?

  • Labeled water bottle
  • Girls: Leotard/spandex shorts
  • Boys: Boys Leotard and shorts/pants
  • Hair tie to pull back hair during gymnastics training
  • Bathing suit and towel
  • Plastic bag to put wet clothes in after swimming class

  • Nut-free snacks are OK to bring, we also provide a Kosher, nut-free afternoon snack

What does a typical Fantastic Gymnastics Camp day look like?

  • Depending on your child’s skill group they will either have gymnastics in the morning or afternoon for 2-3 hours - Stretching, Gymnastics and Conditioning in Penthouse Gymnastics Studio (groups based on experience)
  • Mid-day Lunch break located in a designated 92NY room or outdoor 92NY playground for 45 minutes to an hour
  • Campers rotate through Sports, Dance Choreography, Arts & Crafts, and Swimming class in the morning or afternoon. For rotations other than gymnastics, campers are split into groups according to their age and they will remain in these groups for the entire session. These are also their field trip groups.
  • For swimming class the children are grouped based on experience. FG has their own lifeguard on duty during swim and our campers are coached by USA Swimming certified coaches, while an FG instructor stands on the deck.
  • Field trip days (Wednesday) – Children meet at Penthouse Gymnastics Studio, depending on the trip that day it is either a half day morning or half day afternoon at the field trip venue within walking distance of 92NY. Lunch takes place at 92NY or a nearby park on these days.

Our Fantastic Gymnastics Camp Mission

At Fantastic Gymnastics Camp our coaches and counselors strive to create a camp experience where children are challenged appropriately, have fun learning, and feel comfortable in all different athletic and art settings! Our goal is that every child leaves at the end of the day with a smile on their face, having learned something new!

Arrive at 92NY (9 am): Dedicated, enthusiastic counselors and expert coaches greet campers at drop off and get them ready for a great day ahead.

Ready, Set, Stretch (9 am-9:35 am): We settle in and start the day with a group warm-up that includes running, stretching, light conditioning and line tumbling.

Gymnastics (9:35 am to 12 pm): We break up into small groups for individualized skill building and training in gymnastic events like Vault, Bars, Beam, Floor, Resi and Double mini tramp. Every day campers learn something new and get to challenge themselves to see real progress!

Lunch (12 pm): At noon, our one-hour lunch offers lots of time to socialize with other campers. Plus, all of our coaches and counselors eat with our campers. Lunch takes place inside, or on our rooftop playground.

Afternoon Activities (1 pm- 4:45 pm): Our afternoon program lets campers try lots of new things. Campers rotate in small groups through activities that include: Swimming, to improve strokes and water skills; Dance/Jazz, to learn a routine that will be debuted on Parent’s Observation Day; KidSports, for a mix of baseball, basketball, hockey, tennis and soccer; and Art, to make amazing projects to take home to parents. And, campers enjoy a Kosher snack during our afternoon break.

Departure: At 4:45 pm we all gather together to talk about what we liked best about our day, sing songs, chat or play games before parent pick-up.

Plus, every week campers get to travel to an exciting educational destination in the greater New York area. Trips include visits to the Bronx Zoo, Brooklyn Children’s Museum, NY Hall of Science, White Post Farms, Children’s Museum of Art and Puppet Works in Prospect Park.
