Join award winning children’s book author Andrea Davis Pinkney for a reading of A Poem For Peter. Ms. Pinkneys’ lyrical narrative tells the inspiring story of a boy who pursued a dream, and who, in turn, inspired generations of other dreamers.
The story of The Snowy Day began with Ezra Jack Keats, born the son of struggling immigrants. Keats had artistic talent, but his father worried that his wish to become an artist was unrealistic. Ezra’s dream came true years later when he created his own book. A series of photos of an adorable African American child served as inspiration. In Keats’s hands, the boy turned into Peter, a child enjoying the snow.
This became The Snowy Day, the first mainstream book to feature an African American child. A Poem for Peter tells the story of an exuberant boy who changed the face of children’s books forever.
