Dr. Howard Gardner, an educational psychologist and professor at Harvard Graduate School of Education, returns to 92NY to give a talk about his 1993 book, Creating Minds: An Anatomy of Creativity Seen Through the Lives of Freud, Einstein, Picasso, Stravinsky, Eliot, Graham, and Ghandi. Dr. Gardner discusses the varying forms of creativity, using the different kinds of creativity demonstrated by Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, Pablo Picasso, Igor Stravinsky, T.S. Eliot, Martha Graham, and Mahatma Gandhi as examples. He believes that while one cannot compare one type of creativity, such as Picasso's visual pieces, to another, like Gandhi's political work, there are distinct similarities and differences between varying types of creativity. Dr. Gardner shares the theoretical background for his beliefs, as well as the views of other psychologists about creativity. He discusses how he approached his study of the seven creatives featured in his book and his principal findings. The discussion concludes with audience questions.
