George Saunders and Colson Whitehead

Feb 16, 2017

Set in a graveyard as the president mourns the death of his son, Lincoln in the Bardo, the first novel from short-story master George Saunders, unfolds across a single night as a chorus of voices fights for the soul of young Willie. “Subversive, hilarious and emotionally piercing, George Saunders is a true original — restlessly inventive, yet deeply humane,” wrote Jennifer Egan.

Colson Whitehead’s new novel, The Underground Railroad, chronicles a young slave’s adventures as she struggles for freedom in the antebellum South. “The story is literature at its finest and history at its most barbaric. Would that this novel were required reading for every American citizen,” wrote Publishers Weekly.
