Charles Gwathmey

Oct 26, 1987

Architectural critic Paul Goldberger moderates a discussion with modernist architect Charles Gwathmey, principal at Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects. Gwathmey shares slides of his work, which includes New York-based projects like the Dutch barn-inspired Spielberg Residence in East Hampton, the International Design Center, and his (at the time of this recording) forthcoming renovation of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum. Goldberger and Gwathmey focus their discussion on the details of this renovation, including the project’s proposed phases, its criticisms, and the challenges involved in renovating such an iconic building. The discussion is followed with audience questions. Recorded October 26, 1987 at The 92nd Street Y, New York.
