COVID-19 completely crippled the airline industry. With passengers staying home, hundreds of thousands of jobs were lost. As the worst of the pandemic begins to subside, people are now returning to air travel in record numbers. In this episode, JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes speaks with host Scott Rechler on how JetBlue navigated through the pandemic, what passengers can expect when they return to flying again, and what air travel could look like in the future.

Robin Hayes is chief executive officer of JetBlue Airways Corp., which encompasses JetBlue — New York’s Hometown Airline® – as well as subsidiaries JetBlue Technology Ventures and JetBlue Travel Products. He joined JetBlue in 2008 and served as the company’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer until becoming president of the airline in January 2014. In February 2015 he was appointed as JetBlue’s third chief executive officer, serving as president and CEO until 2018. Prior to joining JetBlue, Robin was executive vice president for the Americas at British Airways. Over the span of a wide-ranging 19-year career with BA, he also served as area general manager for Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. He serves as chair of the Board of Governors of the International Air Transport Association (IATA); vice chair of the board of Airlines for America (A4A); and a member of the board of KeyCorp; Make-A-Wish Connecticut; and the Wings Club Foundation. Robin is a graduate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom. He received a BSc and Master’s in Engineering from the university.

Scott Rechler

Scott Rechler is the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of RXR, one of the largest owners, managers, and developers of real estate and infrastructure in the New York metropolitan region.

In addition to his role at RXR, Scott serves as chair of Regional Plan Association (RPA), the New York region’s premier planning organization for nearly 100 years. The RPA is an independent non-profit civic organization that develops and promotes ideas to improve the economic health, environmental resiliency, and quality of life of the New York metropolitan area.

From 2011 to 2016, Scott served on the Board of Commissioners as Vice Chairman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He later served on the Board of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) from 2017 to 2019.

Scott also serves as trustee and Vice Chair of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, member of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY), a Board member of Northwell Heath, and a member of the NYU Real Estate Institute Advisory Committee.

Scott also serves on the Board of the Tribeca Film Institute, where he serves as its co-Chair, and he also serves on the Board of the Drum Major Institute, Convene, and Kitchen United.

Scott is a graduate of Clark University and the New York University Schack Institute.
