Kathy Butterly was born in Amityville, NY in 1963. She attended Moore College of Art 1982-1986 (BFA) and University of California, Davis 1989-1990 (MFA.)

Kathy Butterly was born in Amityville, NY in 1963. She attended Moore College of Art 1982-1986 (BFA) and University of California, Davis 1989-1990 (MFA.) In 1992 she moved from California back to the east coast and set up a studio in Hoboken, NJ for three years while residing in NYC. In 1995 Butterly moved her studio and living space to the East Village in NYC she currently lives/works.

Her work is currently represented by the Shoshana Wayne Gallery, Santa Monica. She has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group shows in the US and abroad. In 2004, Butterly’s sculptures were included the Carnegie International and in 2015 her was included in Pretty Raw: After and About Helen Frankenthaler at the Rose Art Museum.

Butterly has been awarded fellowships and grants including the 2014 Guggenheim Fellowship Award, the 2012 Smithsonian American Art Museum Contemporary Artist Award and the 2011 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, among others.

Her works have been collected privately and publicly including the Brooklyn Museum, the Carnegie Museum of Art, MoMA, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, among others.
