Develop technical skills while learning the historical significance of objects associated with Jewish ceremony. Competent metalworking and soldering skills required. Projects in this course will aid in discovering contemporary approaches to silversmithing with an emphasis on ceremonial objects.

Besides teaching and making jewelry and sculpture, Butler has also worked with other designers, collaborating to bring ideas to fruition, including Donna Karan, 2006, 2007 and Leila Tai, 2009, 2010. He is also involved with museum exhibition design and installation, including the well received, reviewed and recently closed Lost World of Old Europe, an exhibit of ceramic and metal objects from the Danube Valley from 7,000 years ago held at the NYU Institute for the Study of the Ancient World: www.nyu.edu/isaw. David has worked with the Folk Art Museum on several occasions, including work on the Approaching Abstraction exhibit. Other museums he has worked with include the Guggenheim, The New York Historical Society and The Bard Center for Graduate Studies.
