Join ceramicist and Art Center faculty Kay Kojima as she considers the dual nature of clay as a medium: its outward, visible characteristics and its inward, hidden spaces.
Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in personal and shared experiences, translating these stories into physical forms that invite viewers to touch as well as look. Kay’s ceramic work speaks in the tactile language of color, texture, and materiality as well as the latent language of history, emotion, and interiority.
In her presentation, Kojima invites attendees to consider the duality of her creations — where the visible surfaces of her ceramic works suggest the significance of what lies beneath and within. Through this dialogue, Kojima encourages a contemplative engagement with her work, prompting viewers to explore not only what is immediately apparent, but also the nuanced narratives and emotions that resonate within her intricately crafted pieces.

Kay Kojima is a Japanese American ceramicist, born and bred in NYC. She has been working in clay for over 10 years, and teaches adult wheel throwing and hand building classes at 92NY and at BKLYN CLAY. She creates both functional and sculptural works inspired by stories and the environment and the way they influence our lives. Her work has been in several exhibitions and is also sold at stores in NYC.
