Hired to create a rock garden in the palace of Versailles, she rises to both professional and romantic challenges, working under master architect Le Notre (Mathias Schoenaerts) while trying to please "The Sun King" (Rickman). The excellent supporting cast includes Stanley Tucci as the King's flamboyant brother, as well as Helen McCrory and Jennifer Ehle as elegant women engaged in court intrigue.

A prolific theatre director and actor, he is best known for starring in the RSC productions of Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Private Lives, for which he received Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations.
