Mary Norris began working at The New Yorker in 1978 and was a query proofreader at the magazine for 24 years. She has written for The Talk of the Town and for newyorker.com, and made a series of videos ("Comma Queen") about grammar, punctuation, and pencils, also for The New Yorker. For many years, she studied Greek, ancient and modern, and traveled in Greece. She is the author of Between You and Me: Confessions of a Comma Queen (Norton, 2015) and Greek to Me: Adventures of the Comma Queen (Norton, 2019). Born in Cleveland, she lives in New York and Rockaway.
