Mary Ann Brehm, PhD is a dance educator and author focusing on creative and somatic approaches to dance. She is president of Mettler Studios and has taught classes for Mettler Studios in Tucson and around the US since 1990, including an annual Creative Dance Teacher Training. Dr. Brehm was a member of the Barbara Mettler Dance Company and Mettler’s dance assistant from 1990-1994. She is editor of Barbara Mettler Teaching Dance: Lessons and Videos and co-author, with Lynne McNett, of Creative Dance and Learning: Making the Kinesthetic Link (Princeton Books, 2015). The book includes theoretical material drawn from the Mettler, Laban, H’Doubler and Tanner traditions, practical information on teaching, and sample lessons drawn from twenty-five years of experience as a teaching artist for award winning programs in K-12 education. She has taught dance courses for several universities, most recently for Lesley University’s Creative Arts and Learning Program, and is a frequent presenter at the National Dance Education Organization annual conference. Her doctorate in dance is from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she researched teaching principles of Margaret H’Doubler.
