Kathleen Isaac is the Director of the Arnhold Dance Education Program (AGDEP) at CUNY Hunter College. She has been a leader in dance professional development, advocacy, K-12 teaching practice and dance assessment in New York City, New York State, nationally and internationally.  In July 2016, she received the Dance Teacher Magazine award in Higher Education and in October 2016, she received an Outstanding Leadership Award from the National Dance Education Organization.  She is the recipient of a Hunter College Faculty Innovation for Teaching with Technology grant, is a Hunter Mellon Arts Mentor and a Faculty Associate with the Hunter College Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute.  She authored, provided professional development for and led facilitator training for Revelations – An Interdisciplinary Approach for the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater from 1999-2010.  She wrote Read My Hips® for the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago and worked as a mentor with Dance Theatre of Harlem’s Education Director through the DELCAP program, in the creation of the Firebird Curriculum.  Ms. Isaac continues to learn about and share best practices in student-centered integration of dance and technology, student-to-student dance mentoring and interdisciplinary models of learning.  She has presented workshops for dance educators at the Dance Education Laboratory at the 92Y in Lesson and Unit Planning with the Standards and Blueprints, Student-to-Student Dance Mentoring, Integrating Dance with Technology, Hip Hop, Flamenco and Tap.  She taught Pre-K-12 dance students in public schools for over 25 years and was recognized by President Clinton’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities as a paradigm for the nation for her Mentoring Magic – Kids Teaching Kids at public schools, PS 165 and PS 79.   Her work with children has been featured in the New York Times, Dance Magazine, Dance Teacher, NBC News, CNN and Bravo.  Her choreography for students has been performed at Hunter College, the Alvin Ailey Studios, Apollo Theater, Lincoln Center, New York City Center Studios and at Mayor Bloomberg’s 2008 State of the City Address at Flushing Meadows Park.  Kathleen is an active member of the National Dance Education Organization and New York State Dance Education Association.  She received a BA in Dance at SUNY Brockport, an MA in Dance from New York University, Gallatin School of Individualized Study, began her doctoral studies at Teachers College, Columbia University, and has completed post-graduate work at NYU and Empire State College and accredited as a Master Dance Educator by NDEO’s Registered Dance Educator process.  In 2016, she served on the Task Force Committee for the creation of the new Doctorate in Dance Education Program at Teachers College, Columbia University.   In 2017, she was selected to represent higher education in the United States by the Israel Institute of Art and Culture, traveling and studying in Israel with a cohort of 10 distinguished professors.  In 2018, she served as a NYSED reviewer for the new Content Specialty Exam in Dance.
