Joan Marie Delahunt is an NYC based music director, composer, pianist, organist, singer and educator. She enjoys working in various genres ranging from classical to musical theater, from liturgical to jazz. As a performer, she has appeared in musical venues such as NYCs Town Hall, Alice Tully hall, the Cathedral of St John the Divine, and Carnegie Hall. She has performed at various off-Broadway venues: The Duplex, The Knitting Factory, Don’t Tell Mama’s, plus regional theater. Ms. Delahunt did post graduate studies at Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, studying composition and improvisation with jazz master Jimmy Heath. She has a Keyboard Performance Certification from Berkeley School of Jazz, She studied lieder singing and accompanying with Rudolph Johnson and Ellie Ameling in Munich; Organ studies with William Whitehead, at 5th Ave. Presbyterian Church, and Conducting with Amy Kaiser both through Mannes College; Opera Performance with Vincent LaSelva at the Juilliard School. She holds a BA in filmmaking/animation from NYU Gallatin program. As an alumni of the BMI Advanced Musical Theater Workshop, she workshopped a new musical, Caged Bird, at NYU SOA. She has served as musical director/choir director/organist/vocal soloist in churches in NYC. During the concert season, Ms. Delahunt is assistant director to Mary Feinsinger, Music Director for the 92NY Broadway Chorus. She has worked with 92NY Hyman Brown Sr. Chorus, and is Director for the Roosevelt Island Sr. Chorus through 92NY. She’s currently pianist for the Brazilian Jazz workshop at NY Jazz Workshop in NYC, working with Brazilian Jazz composer/percussionist Vanderlei Pereira.
