Dr. Eric R. Hupe is an Assistant Professor of Art History at Lafayette College where he teaches courses on Italian Renaissance and Baroque art. His research investigates the relationship of optical science, theology, and art in Renaissance Italy. Eric received his doctoral degree from the University of Virginia and a Master’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis where he focused on the art of Michelangelo and issues of patronage. His research on Michelangelo is published in the edited anthology Michelangelo in the New Millennium (Brill Press, 2016). In his courses Eric prioritizes close looking as he attempts to immerse his students in the works of art they examine.
