Our Bronfman Center for Jewish Life extends a warm welcome to all to join us in celebrating Passover this spring. Rabbi Joui Hessel, Vice President of Jewish Life, Bronfman Center for Jewish Life, 92Y, writes:
Friday, April 15 begins the Jewish holiday of Passover, which commemorates the Exodus from Egypt and the liberation of the Jewish people. Together with family and friends gathered around a dinner table, we dedicate our evening to re-telling the story, to honor our People’s suffering and to celebrate our freedom. Perhaps this year more so than in others past, we recognize that the struggle for freedom is ongoing for so many others; people of color, the LGBTQIA+ community and those in war-torn countries such as Ukraine. For our ancestors, Pharoah was the archetype for all tyrants – those who commanded obedience and thought they were indeed gods. Knowing that these tyrants still are in our midst, we now dedicate ourselves to the struggle for freedom and shall not rest until the chains of enslavement are broken.
Musical Family Seder – April 10
We welcome families with young children to join Rebecca Schoffer, Director of Jewish Family Engagement, at our Musical Family Seder (minus the meal!) on Sunday, April 10 at 4 pm. Rebecca writes:
We look forward to retelling the Passover story with you, as we bring new life to ancient traditions! We will sing and dance our way into Pesach, surrounded by community and friends.
