“An explosion of beauty” – Bill Charlap on Jazz in July

Jazz in July 2022 kicks off in just three weeks with superstar Joshua Redman joining the Bill Charlap Trio as the first in an amazing lineup of some of the greatest and most influential artists in jazz. “Every concert is filled with one-of-a-kind, original artists whose unique conceptions are filled with the vitality of the singular stories they were born to tell,” says festival artistic director Bill Charlap. Featured in this year’s festival: Jazz masters Kenny Barron and Joe Lovano, improvising virtuosos Mike Stern, Chris Potter and Warren Wolf, important young voices Nicole Glover, Aaron Diehl and Samara Joy, and four amazing rhythm sections: Scott Colley & Bill Stewart; David Wong & Carl Allen; Noriko Ueda & Lewis Nash, and Peter Washington & Kenny Washington – Bill’s musical partners for the last 25 years.

The festival’s four nights bring these artists together in combinations that have never happened before. “Our music is all about chemistry, alchemy and instant creativity and the communicative intensity these musicians bring to each other – and to [the audience], says Bill. Join us for what he calls “an explosion of beauty” in our “magical hall where intelligence and compassion are celebrated and where love on the bandstand reigns.”
