The audacious orchestral ensemble collective and 92NY Ensemble in Residence The Knights joins us for their second performance this season with friends Gabriel and Jeffrey Kahane.
Gabriel Kahane has been hailed by The New Yorker as “one of the finest songwriters of the day.” His acclaimed folk-inflected pop is part of an arsenal of talent that also includes composing classical works commissioned by Carnegie Hall, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and more. This concert presents the New York premiere of Kahane’s piano concerto Heirloom, a lyrical homage to the intergenerational connections and musical influences that have shaped his life. The work was written for his father, celebrated pianist/conductor Jeffrey Kahane, who performs as soloist. The program opens with the great Marriage of Figaro overture and features more Mozart with a performance by The Knights of the splendid “Paris” Symphony. Gabriel Kahane performs a selection of his songs with The Knights for the concert’s closing set.
