The Grammy Award-winning Pacifica Quartet returns to our stage with a reflective concert shaped around three pivotal chapters in American history.
The program moves from the solemn beauty of Barber’s Adagio for Strings, an indelible soundtrack to the days following the assassination of John F. Kennedy, to George Crumb’s Black Angels, written in response to the Vietnam War – a work made unforgettable by the Kronos Quartet – to Dvořák’s “American” Quartet, its fusion of European and American impulses intended by the quartet to point to Ellis Island and the immigrant experience. A thoughtful program that brings new insights to a pair of beloved works, and another rarely performed in concert.
