Madiba K. Dennie

Madiba K. Dennie is the deputy editor and senior contributor at the critical legal commentary website Balls and Strikes, the co-director of the Democracy Committee of the New Jersey Reparations Council, and was previously a counsel at the Brennan Center for Justice. Her legal and political commentary has been featured in The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and elsewhere, and she has been interviewed on the BBC, MSNBC, and other media outlets. She has taught at Western Washington University and New York University School of Law. Dennie is a graduate of Columbia Law School and Princeton University. The Originalism Trap is her first book.

Melissa Murray is NYU Law’s Frederick I. and Grace Stokes Professor of Law and Faculty Director of its Birnbaum Women’s Leadership Center. She is a co-creator and co-host of the Strict Scrutiny podcast and a legal analyst for MSNBC. A constitutional law scholar and expert in reproductive rights and justice, her research and writing have been published by leading law journals and popular outlets; her article “Dobbs and Democracy” appears in Harvard Law Review this spring (and offers much of the inspiration for this event!).

Jennifer Weiss-Wolf

Attorney, advocate, and author Jennifer Weiss-Wolf is the executive director of NYU Law’s Birnbaum Women’s Leadership Network. Prior she was vice president and the inaugural women and democracy fellow at the Brennan Center for Justice. She also leads partnerships and strategy at Ms., the feminist movement-making magazine and is a contributor to 50 Years of Ms.: The Best of the Pathbreaking Magazine That Ignited a Revolution (Knopf, 2023) . A passionate writer on and advocate for issues of gender and politics, she was dubbed the “architect of the U.S. campaign to squash the tampon tax” by Newsweek. Her 2017 book Periods Gone Public: Taking a Stand for Menstrual Equity was lauded by Gloria Steinem as “the beginning of liberation for us all.” Her forthcoming book, Period. Full Stop. The Politics of Menopause will be published by NYU Press in 2025. Jen’s writing and work have been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, TIME, Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, Teen Vogue, NPR, PBS, and NowThis, among others.
