Hope Boykin with HopeBoykinDance presents the New York premiere of ReDefine US, From The INside OUT — created during her Andrew W Mellon Foundation funded Boykin Bubble residency — along with brand new works.

Kaufmann Concert Hall is where audiences witnessed iconic artists including Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey, Jose Limon and Pearl Primus push boundaries, on this historic stage, audiences experienced the evolution of an art form.

Hope Boykin

Hope Boykin was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, was a three-time recipient of the American Dance Festival’s Young Tuition Scholarship, and attended Howard University in Washington, DC. In New York City, Hope studied at The Ailey School and worked as assistant to choreographers Milton Myers and the late Talley Beatty.

Hope was an original member of Complexions, and joined PHILADANCO, where she received her first Bessie, a New York dance and performance award. She is an educator of world renown and has choreographed for numerous dance company’s including Philadanco, Minnesota Dance Theater, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, American Ballet Theatre Studio Company, BalletX, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater where she presented her third work of choreography for the Ailey company called r-Evolution, Dream.

In 2020 Hope completed her 20th and final year as a member of The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. She is Artistic Advisor for Dance Education at the Kennedy Center and Artistic Lead for the Kennedy Center Dance Lab. She was Artistic Advisor for Howard University Dance Department’s 2021 Spring Semester and curated the Spring Concert as well as serving as Artist-In-Residence at USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance.

Most recently, Hope and HopeBoykinDance received a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for a Covid safe #BoykinBubble which culminated in a live-stream performance at the Annenberg Center in Philadelphia, PA. For her numerous virtual works and presentations during the pandemic, Hope was awarded her second Bessie award, a true honor, as the 2021 Break Out Choreographer.

Through the continued efforts of HopeBoykinDance, her mission includes leading young and aspiring artists to a secure foundation and a concrete understanding, which develops a confidence and an assurance that will be unmatched.

Patrick Coker from Chester, VA, grew up in a military family stationed in many places across the country. In May 2014, Coker graduated from the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program, where he apprenticed with Ailey II in his final year. After graduation, he danced for Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, and then went on to join Jessica Lang Dance. He has also performed with The Mark Morris Dance Group in The Hard Nut and L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato, Earl Mosley’s Diversity of Dance and LA-based BODYTRAFFIC. Mr. Coker joined the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 2019, where he is currently a dancer. He is thrilled to be a part of HopeBoykinDance.

Alisha Rena Peek

Alisha Rena Peek, Upper Marlboro, MD, graduated cum laude from the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program in Dance in 2018 and is a former company member of Ailey II. While with the company, she performed and taught both internationally and domestically and has had the opportunity to work with many influential choreographers such as Robert Battle, Hope Boykin, Andrea Miller, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Kirven Douthit-Boyd, and Juel D. Lane to name a few. Ms. Peek began her formal dance training at the Washington School of Ballet and later went on to train at Dance Theatre of Harlem Kennedy Center Residency, Kirov Ballet Academy, and The Art of Technique under the direction of Troy D. Brown. Ms. Peek attended summer intensive programs at American Ballet Theatre, Dance Theatre of Harlem (scholarship recipient), Boston Ballet (scholarship recipient), Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and The Ailey School (scholarship recipient). She has also appeared in season one of the hit FX series POSE, most recently participated in the HopeBoykinDance Bubble Residency, and has choreographed for a short film produced by Beats by Dre.

William Roberson

William Roberson, a native of Tennessee, graduated with a B.F.A in Dance from Howard University in 2013. Through Howard, he’s been fortunate to work with Thomas/ Ortiz Dance, Hope Boykin, DAMAGEDANCE, Ronald K Brown’s Evidence, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, Camille A Brown and the production Porgy and Bess at the Metropolitan Opera, as well as Shakespeare in the Park’s Much Ado About Nothin’. Off stage he works as a production assistant for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, a personal trainer, and a Pilates mat instructor. He is incredibly grateful and thankful to have reconnected with Hope in the studio again for such a momentous part of her career.

Deidre Rogan

Deidre Rogan began her dance training in Fort Myers, FL at Gulfshore Ballet, under the direction of Melinda Roy and Roberto Munoz. Deidre has worked with such choreographers as Judith Jamison, Milton Myers, Matthew Rushing, Hope Boykin, Ronald K. Brown, Tre McIntyre and Cheryl Copeland. She performed as a United States Arts Ambassador for President Barack Obama during the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Hannover Messe. She is a three-time recipient of the BIG ARTS awards scholarship and a National Young Arts award scholarship. Deidre graduated with honors from the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program in Dance and was a member of Ailey II from 2014-16. Recently, Deidre was the Associate Choreographer for City Center Encores Off-Center production of Promenade, and was a featured dancer in a commercial for Italian designer Loro Piana’s new shoe line, The Rare Walk. She is currently a member of Parsons Dance, and joined the company in 2017. Deidre is thrilled to be a part of An Evening Of Hope.

Martina Viadana

Martina Viadana, born in Milano, Italy and moved to the Unites States at the age of five. She began her training at the Lake Placid School of Ballet until moving to New York City and attended The Ailey School as a Junior Division student from 2011 to 2016. In 2016 she graduated from the Professional Performing Arts School and graduated John Jay College of Criminal Justice receiving her degree in Political Science. In 2020 she graduated from the Ailey School as a Scholarship Student and has studied abroad at the London Contemporary Dance School. Martina has worked with choreographers such as Mathew Rushing, Brice Mousset, Earl Mosley and Jessica Castro, is currently a member of Carolyn Dorfman Dance and continues to work with Hope Boykin and HopeBoykinDance.

Terri Ayanna Wright

Terri Ayanna Wright hails from Baton Rouge, Louisiana by way of Houston, Texas, and has called NYC her home since 2011. She is an honors graduate of the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program, with a major in dance and minor in computer science. Ms. Wright has toured internationally with Ailey II, and has since been granted opportunities to produce performances, choreograph, and teach all over the world. Ms. Wright continues to perform as a freelance artist, currently in The Met Opera's Porgy & Bess, choreographed by Camille A. Brown. She is a recent honors MFA graduate of Parsons in Design & Technology, with a focus on 3-D motion graphics, motion design, and motion-capture. This has allowed her to expand her storytelling capabilities through the marriage of dance, digital video, and visual effects. She founded her production company, HeartFelt Wright Productions, on the grounds of helping others to produce video-based and live performances, from ideation to post-production. You can catch Terri teaching beginner modern dance (Horton-based) every Sunday and Wednesday virtually at Ailey Extension Online! Ms. Wright is also a production assistant and co-editor for HopeBoykinDance. This past year dancing with HopeBoykinDance, in a residency bubble and now at 92nd Street Y, has been the highlight in a sea of uncertainty.
