Apple TV+’s Shrinking: Advance Screening

Shrinking follows a grieving therapist (played by Emmy Award nominee Jason Segel) who starts to break the rules, telling his clients exactly what he thinks.

Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives … including his own. Created by Emmy Award winners Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso, Bad Monkey), Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso) and Segel, the series also stars multi-award winner Harrison Ford.

On the eve of its highly-anticipated season two debut, please join us for a special screening, followed by an insightful conversation with both Goldstein and Segel moderated by NPR’s Linda Holmes. Together, they will dive into the creative process that goes into producing the kind of compelling and engaging television that resonates with audiences around the globe, and will share behind-the-scenes stories and insights into the second season of Shrinking.

Jason Segel

Jason Segel is an actor, author, writer, director, and producer. Most recently, Segel starred in AppleTV+’s, Shrinking, which he executive produced and co-wrote with Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein. For his role, Segel was nominated for a 2023 Emmy Award for “Outstanding Lead Actor in A Comedy Series,” a 2024 Golden Globe Award for “Best Actor in a Televisions Series – Musical or Comedy,” and a 2024 Writers Guild Award for “Best New Series.” The show was nominated for a 2024 Critics Choice Award for “Best Comedy Series.” Season 2 will premiere on AppleTV+ on October 16.

Additionally, Segel starred in Adam McKay’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, on HBO. The series, which aired its second and final season earlier this year, was nominated for a 2024 Critics Choice Award for “Best Drama Series.”

Prior to that, Segel created, wrote, directed, produced and starred in the anthology series, Dispatches from Elsewhere. The series, which premiered at the 2020 Berlin Film Festival, was nominated for a 2021 GLAAD Media Award for “Outstanding Limited Series or Anthology Series” and co-starred Sally Field, Andre Benjamin and Eve Lindley.

Segel received critical acclaim for starring as David Foster Wallace in James Ponsoldt’s dramatic biopic, The End of the Tour. The film recounts the five-day interview between Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky (Jesse Eisenberg) and Wallace, which took place after the 1996 publication of Wallace’s groundbreaking novel, Infinite Jest. The film premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and Segel received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for “Best Male Lead” for his performance.

Segel landed his first major leading role in Nicholas Stoller’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall. The film, which Segel wrote, made over $100 million worldwide. Segel wrote a “Dracula” musical performed by puppets, which was a personal idea and passion he incorporated into the film, emboldening him to pitch his concept for a “Muppets” movie. He, along with Stoller, signed on to write The Muppets, which made over $150 million worldwide. Additionally, the film won an Academy Award in 2012 for “Best Original Song” for “Man or Muppet,” written by Bret McKenzie and performed by Segel.

Segel is also well known for starring in Charlie McDowell’s The Discovery, opposite Robert Redford, Mary Steenburgen and Rooney Mara, which premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival; Joshua Marston’s Come Sunday, opposite Chiwetel Ejiofor, which premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival; John Hamburg’s I Love You, Man, opposite Paul Rudd; and Jay and Mark Duplass’ Jeff, Who Lives at Home, opposite Ed Helms and Susan Sarandon.

Segel’s other film credits include: Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up, which was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for “Best Comedy Movie” and was named one of AFI’s Top Ten Films of the Year; Judd Apatow’s This Is 40, which was nominated for a 2013 Critics Choice Award for “Best Comedy Movie;” Nicholas Stoller’s The Five-Year Engagement opposite Emily Blunt; Jake Kasdan’s Bad Teacher, opposite Cameron Diaz; Rob Letterman’s Gulliver’s Travels opposite Jack Black; Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud’s Despicable Me, opposite Steve Carrell and Russell Brand; Charlie McDowell’s feature Windfall, opposite Lily Collins and Jesse Plemons; and Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s Our Friend opposite Dakota Johnson and Casey Affleck, among others.

On television, Segel starred in How I Met Your Mother alongside Alyson Hannigan, Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, and Neil Patrick Harris. The show, which was created by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, ran for nine seasons and was nominated for an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Comedy Series” and a Teen Choice Award for “Choice TV Show: Comedy,” and won a People’s Choice Awards for “Best TV Comedy.” He is also well known for starring in Judd Apatow’s Emmy-nominated television series Freaks and Geeks as well as Apatow’s Undeclared.

In addition to his work in television and film, Segel made his debut as a children’s book author with Nightmares!, published by Random House and co-written by Kirsten Miller. The first installment of the middle-grade trilogy was released in 2014 and debuted at #2 on The New York Times Bestseller List. The second book, Nightmares! The Sleepwalker Tonic, was published in 2015, and the third and final book in the series, Nightmares! The Lost Lullaby was published in 2016. Furthermore, in 2017, Segel and Miller teamed up again for a second book series called Otherworld, which is a young adult trilogy and debuted at #6 on The New York Times Bestseller List. The second installment of the series, Otherearth was released in 2018 and the final book in the trilogy in the series, Otherlife, was released in 2019.

Brett Goldstein — a breakthrough British creative force on and offscreen — has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after multi-hyphenates. Goldstein will next star as the lead opposite Imogen Poots in All Of You for which he also co-wrote alongside director William Bridges. The heart-wrenching drama, which is a story of wistful love and lives not lived, will have its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. He has additionally wrapped production on the latest drama from acclaimed Hungarian filmmaker Kornél Mundruczó, At The Sea, alongside Amy Adams and Murray Bartlett. Goldstein is the creator and executive producer of the Apple TV+ cathartic comedy Shrinking alongside Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence, which will return for its second season on October 16. This follows his Emmy award-winning performance as the brash yet lovable Roy Kent in the Apple TV+ record-breaking series Ted Lasso for which he is also a co-executive producer and writer on. Goldstein is coming off the heels of headlining his first-ever standup comedy tour, The Second Best Night Of Your Life, which sold out venues across the US and Canada with multiple night runs. The tour de force also hosts the iHeartRadio award-winning podcast, Films To Be Buried With, which finds him in candid conversation with special guests as they discuss the films that have shaped them. He has no time for dinner.
