A generative workshop for students interested in creative nonfiction as a form of expression, as well as for those hoping to come up with ideas for college application essays.
Whether it springs from a long-ago memory, a shift in our lives, or an encounter just last week that speaks to identity, essay-writing can help us find new aspects of ourselves, give others the chance to reflect on their own experiences, and use even small moments to explore larger themes. In this course, we’ll spark new ideas with unusual visual and text-based prompts, as well as select readings — all designed to help students uncover stories they didn’t realize were waiting to be told. Students will come away with kernels of several new essays, plus new writing techniques.
Class meets online on Sundays: October 2 and 9.
