Join Spark Your Health in honor of International Women’s Day for a timely discussion with authors Kate Manne and Kara Alaimo who will be discussing the influence of social media on the lives of women and girls, as well as a radical reevaluation of how body image impacts all facets of our lives and how we can remake the world to accommodate people of every size.
Both professors who are deeply passionate about these topics, so this is a conversation that will support families, teachers, and all those curious to learn about the on-going battles and victories that come along with the use of social media at young ages and the unwavering body image demands and images placed upon us that have far-reaching consequences. The good news is that Kate and Kara bring to the table an arsenal of solutions to support our understanding and growth in these areas.
Kara Alaimo’s book, Over the Influence, looks at how social media is affecting the lives of women and girls and what we can do about it. Kate Manne’s book, Unshrinking, is the definitive takedown of fatphobia, drawing on personal experience as well as rigorous research to expose how size discrimination harms everyone, and how to combat it.
