A two-semester course for students working on book-length projects.
This workshop is designed for students who are putting together a chapbook or book-length manuscript of poems. We’ll explore the manuscript process: grouping, organizing, pruning, and adding to your book or chapbook. We’ll spend class time reading and discussing your manuscripts, focusing on how the individual poems cohere into a satisfying whole; each student’s manuscript will be discussed in its original and revised versions. Generative exercises will produce new work to add dimension and energy to your book. We will also read published books and explore how their structure contributes to our experience, as well as talk about the process of seeking publication for your manuscript.
Students are chosen by Kathleen Ossip on the basis of a manuscript submission. Applications must be received by Monday, January 18 at 5 pm. View the submission guidelines.
Class meets Tuesdays.
Spring semester: Feb 9, 16, 23, Mar 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.
