DEL’s Contemplating War & Peace: Perspectives from The Green Table workshop introduces dance educators to Kurt Jooss’ seminal anti-war dance The Green Table, as danced by the renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company, and presents an original 6-12th grade DEL curriculum that uses the piece as an entry point to develop students’ critical thinking skills and empathy in a culturally responsive environment.
The curriculum examines the different experiences of war as illustrated in The Green Table using movement exploration and analysis, group discussion, textual analysis and research, as well as collaborative dance making. With the artistic excellence and the dynamism of Paul Taylor Dance Company, participants will deepen their understanding of the historic and current relevance of this iconic work and contemplate the existential questions of war and peace through the vehicle of dance.
This workshop is a NYC DOE collaboration.
