Join Tony award-nominated composer Joe Iconis, (Be More Chill, The Untitled Unauthorized Hunter S. Thompson Musical) in a two-day workshop devoted to the art of singing and interpreting his music.
Teaching alongside Joe will be award-winning cabaret performer and historian Michael Kirk Lane, and acclaimed cabaret musical director Yasuhiko (Yaz) Fukuoka. The trio of artists will provide valuable insights into the art form of interpreting songs for the concert and cabaret stage. While working on Joe’s material, you will be empowered to showcase the most authentic version of yourself on stage.
Please choose a song from Iconis’s catalogue that you connect with on a personal level and come prepared to refine your craft and take your song interpretation skills to the next level. Be ready to ask questions, step outside your comfort zone, play, and dig deeper into your material to sharpen the honest message you want to share with an audience.
Those not interested in performing are invited to join the workshop as auditors.

Joe Iconis is a musical theater writer and performer. He has been nominated for a Tony Award, four Drama Desk Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards, two Outer Critics’ Circle Awards, and is the recipient of an Ed Kleban Award, a Jonathan Larson Award, and a Richard Rodgers Award.

Michael Kirk Lane is an award-winning cabaret artist, most recently winning Manhattan Association of Cabaret Awards in both 2022 and 2020. Beyond his own experience performing in cabaret, Lane’s experience managing two of the city’s most renowned cabaret venues (The Laurie Beechman Theatre, Don’t Tell Mama) offers him a unique vantage point and perspective on the art form.
As a teaching artist for over 20 years, Lane has taught all ages from pre-school to retirement homes.
