Join Pedro Ruiz, renowned choreographer and former principal dancer of Ballet Hispanico in this interactive movement-based workshop that introduces dance educators to Guajira, choreographed by Mr. Ruiz in 1999 with an accompanying curriculum created by Ballet Hispanico.
Guajira explores Ruiz’ childhood growing up in Cuba and is a tribute to the hardworking women of Cuba’s countryside. Ruiz will share his dance history and teach different sections of the piece, including Cuban and Yoruba folkloric dance forms and modern dance sections. Ann Biddle, Director of the DEL Institute, and former project manager of the Guajira project, will introduce the K-5 curriculum in an asynchronous module that accompanies the in-person workshop and provides access to rich source materials linked to the work.
