Looking Forward, Looking Back: Becoming a Poet.
A four-week online course in writing forceful and original poems and in discovering the singular way each of us embarks on a serious and sustainable artistic journey through poetry writing. In our readings and workshops, we will consider how poets respond to past writers and will explore our own traditions and influences and the role they play in our evolving personal styles. We will be guided by questions: How can my poetry respond to vital questions of the contemporary moment while also attending to meaningful historical traditions? Who am I as a poet? Where am I going?
This workshop meets online on Tuesdays: January 28, February 4, 11 and 18 from 6:30-9 pm.
Enrollment is limited to 12 students.
Submission Guidelines: Students are chosen on the basis of a manuscript submission. Applications must be received by Friday, January 10 at 5 pm ET. View the submission guidelines and submit an application for this class.
Scholarship assistance is available. Applications must be returned to Scholarship Services at least two weeks before the first session.
This course will take place online.
