Intro to Beaded Jewelry Part I

Please bring the following to all classes:
Cloth to work on, small sharp scissors, cloth measuring tape, small metal ruler marked in inches and in millimeters, and pencil & paper (or notebook)
Supplies needed for 1st Class: 1 strand of pearls, beading awl and twisted wire needles (Fine, #6 or Med #8). please buy awl from Instructor $2.50 -- best one
Additional supplies needed will be discussed in class.
1. KNOTTING PRACTICE Beading awl, 1 strand of fresh water pearls – 6mm to 10 mm. Fine flex needles #6 or #8. Note: Pearls used for practice knotting will be cut apart and used again in Week 2 for Necklace. Silk will be provided by Instructor
2. KNOTTING – FR WIRE AND PEARLS Beading awl, fresh water pearls used in Week 1, and a clasp suitable for pearls. Clear nail polish . French wire & silk will be provided by Instructor.
3.& 4. TWO NEEDLE WEAVE BRACELET
For 7" wrist, sgl. woven strip: 80 4mm glass beads For wider bracelet: 250 4mm Griffin Carded #1 or #2 silk or nylon. 2 cards needed for wider bracelet. Clasp for single strand - clasp for 3 strand for wider. Bead tips will be provided by Instructor. Beadalon collapsible eye needle (fine)
5. ELASTIC AND BEADING WIRE W/CRIMP BEADS Assortment of glass beads for 18" Necklace. Single strand clasp (Crimping tool, beading wire, crimp beads, crimp covers)
For elastic bracelet - 1 bead with really large hole and appx. 7" of other beads -
4mm and up in size. 1mm or .7mm elastic. Small tube E-6000 glue.
6. EARRINGS ON STRING Assortment of beads suitable for earrings. Nylon thread. Ear wires if you have sensitive ears. Some thin nylon and ear wires will be provided.

Student Guidelines & Studio Rules
Studios are open 15 min before the start of class.
Do not enter any studio without your instructor present.
Do not enter a studio until the previous class has ended and all the participants have left the room and your instructor is present.
Students must leave studios after their class is over.
Do not use any tool that you are unfamiliar with as it could permanently damage the tool particularly hammers.
Only use hammers that you are familiar with like a “hardware hammer” if it doesn’t look familiar don’t use it you will ruin it.
Exhaust fans must be turned on when torches are being used or any materials is being melted.
Tools & Torches are coded with six different colors which denote the studios they belong in and their use;
Blue S353
Yellow S355
Red S352
Orange S350
LIGHT BLUE INSTRUCTOR’S BOX NOT FOR STUDENT USE.
Green children’s classes
If you borrow a tool from another room return it at the end of class time.
Library books are for reference only please return them in their proper order.
Students are responsible for cleaning the space they have used including the soldering station and bricks and returning tools at the end of class.
