Supply list for Nancy Johnson’s Class:
  • 2B, 4B and 6B graphite pencils.
    • Recommended brands: Derwent, Faber Castel, Prismacolor, Staedtler, Tombow
    • do not buy Blick brand pencils they are inferior
  • Soft Vine Charcoal
  • Pad of Paper: 14" x 17" Strathmore 400 series Medium Surface 80lbs
  • Cansen Tinnted assorted pastel paper, 12 x 16
  • Staedtler Plastic eraser
  • Kneaded eraser
  • Tombow MONO zero elestomer erasers, sizes 2.5 x 5mm and 2.3mm (optional)
  • white prismacolor pencil for doing drawings on tinted paper
  • soft vine charcoal
  • compressed charcoal, 4B, 6B
  • soft black charcoal pencils
  • sanguine or red chalk stick or pencil form

  • *Graphite Pencils 2B, 4B, 6B
  • Soft Vine Charcoal medium
  • *Drawing paper 80lb or newsprint - 14” x 17” is okay 18” x 24” is recommended (I use newprint in class)
  • *Metal pencil sharpener
  • *1 Mars Plastic Eraser (Staedtler recommended)
  • Gray kneaded eraser
  • Conté Crayon (black, white, sanguine and blue) individual colors are fine and they also sell boxes for portrait/figure

Supply List for Susan Cottle’s Class:

All drawing media are welcome. Demonstrations will be using white Drawing Paper and pencil and charcoal for the first three weeks, then introducing wet media beginning week 4.

  • Graphite pencils: 2H, HB 2B, 4B,8B
  • Thin or medium Sticks Vine or willow Charcoal (3 pack is fine-soft or medium)
  • Winsor Newton Charcoal (one stick)
  • Paper (I like 14” x 17” Strathmore smooth white with brown cover. )
  • Kneaded eraser
  • Mars Plastic eraser
  • Optional: Chamois cloth
  • Mono zero retractable eraser for detail
  • Exacto knife or hand- held pencil sharpener
  • A soft synthetic brush: I like Princeton Neptune ¾ oval wash, or # 10 or 12 soft synthetic brush as Mimik Kolinsky, or Square wash.
  • Cup for water
  • Paper towels

Optional: if you prefer or want to try a wash approach, watercolor, ink or any water-soluble pencil or pen
We will go over this on the first day. You will not need until week 3 .
