Drawing and Painting (Intermediate/Advanced)

Course Description: A broad variety of subject matter, from still life setups, landscapes and an array of photographic reference materials is introduced, to encourage students to find the concepts and ideas that they themselves are interested in exploring. At the same time, the focus is on rigorous technique, improving drawing skills, constant attention to composition and the use of color and value to build form. NOTE: Because this is an online class, there are no paint supplies listed. However, if you have paint materials at home and are able to do so, you are of course, welcome to paint during class.
Supplies:
- 1 pad 18 x 24" (or 14 x 18”) (Stonehenge, Canson Mi‐Tients or Strathmore toned charcoal paper)
- Set of at least 12 soft pastels, not oil pastels (Sennelier or Unison, Nupastels are fine as starters and as additional)
- Glassine or Tracing paper to protect drawings
- “Staedtler” brand mars plastic white eraser and/or peel‐off eraser pencil
- kneaded rubber eraser
- Soft vine charcoal 4‐5 medium sticks
- Variety of graphite pencils in various hardness, example H, 2H, 4H, B, 2B,4B
- Small Chamois Cloth or blue work towels from hardware store
- Large Bull clips or alternative to attach pad and paper to drawing board
