Dr. Gail Saltz, Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at New York Presbyterian Hospital Weil-Cornell Medical Center, moderates a conversation with American writer Andrew Solomon about his book, The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression (2001). The Noonday Demon is based on an article Solomon wrote for The New Yorker in 1998. Dr. Saltz describes it as a book that looks at depression “personally, culturally, politically, historically, philosophically, as well as medically and psychologically.” Solomon discusses the stigma surrounding depression and other mental illnesses, potential modes of prevention, and “different modalities of treatment.” The discussion is followed by questions from the audience.
