Adam Pendleton, Andrea Rosen, and Susan Thompson in conversation with Sam Shikiar

A contemporary artist, a museum curator, a gallery owner, and a collector discuss contemporary art today. Questions include: What is the current role of art in society and what are the responsibilities of artists? What advice can be shared with collectors? How is art consumed today and how has this changed over the past 10 years? How is the gallery model evolving? How has the acquisition model for museums changed?

Sam Shikiar lives in New York and has collected contemporary art for over a decade. Sam is a Managing Director at Shikiar Asset Management in New York after having worked at Goldman Sachs the prior 11 years.

Adam Pendleton is a New York-based artist known for work animated by what the artist calls “Black Dada,” a critical articulation of blackness, abstraction, and the avant-garde. His work can be found in numerous collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Guggenheim, New York; and Tate Modern, London.

Susan Thompson is Associate Curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York.

Andrea Rosen opened Andrea Rosen Gallery in 1990 with a seminal exhibition of Felix Gonzalez-Torres, and has for more than 28 years identified and advocated for some of the most important artists of our time, including John Currin, Wolfgang Tillmans and Andrea Zittel.
