Sexual Expression and Society

Oct 19, 1999

Feminist author and journalist Susie Bright speaks about her new book, Full Exposure: Opening Up to Sexual Creativity and Erotic Expression (1999). This lecture is part of the 1999 Ruth and Oliver Stanton About Women series. Full Exposure is Bright’s fourteenth book about sex and sexuality. She explains that her prolific interest in writing about sex is ultimately fueled by a “search for justice.” According to Bright, Full Exposure explores the idea of a personal “sexual philosophy.” She argues that people who write about sex sometimes try to “take away the craziness” in an attempt to be viewed as respectable, but she intended to “write something that had it all.” Bright also speaks about her experience meeting people on book tours and observing how “starved” people are for basic information about sex. The lecture includes questions from the audience.
