Oct 18, 2018

Pawel Pawlikowski's love story is the Polish entry for the Best Foreign-Language Film Oscar, and won the Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival. The film's star, Joanna Kulig, who gives a stunning performance. This Polish stage and screen actress is revelatory playing a singer who goes from being part of a folk music troupe to a sultry chanteuse in Paris cabarets. Kulig's previous films include Ida, The Innocents, The Woman in the Fifth, and Elles. In the words of Time Out London, “spanning two decades and four countries in post-war Europe, the Polish filmmaker has conjured a dazzling, painful, universal odyssey through the human heart and all its strange compulsions. It could be the most achingly romantic film you’ll see this year.”
